PHYLLIS C. HUTSON, MDIV, F/AOGPE founded
the Language Skills Academy in 1981 to provide diagnostic and therapeutic
educational services to dyslexic children and adults. She is a Fellow
of the Academy of Orton- Gillingham Practitioners and Educators,
a Trustee of the Academy and Secretary of the Board, a past president
of the Indiana Branch of the International Dyslexia Association
and was a founding member of the Board of Governors of the Indianapolis
32nd Degree Masonic Learning Center for (dyslexic) Children in Indianapolis.
As an adjunct instructor at Butler University,
she taught graduate-level Orton-Gillingham teacher training courses
in dyslexia studies for many years. In 2000 she was honored when
a private school for dyslexic children in Indianapolis - The Hutson
School - was named for her.
In recognition of her work in dyslexia, she was
named the 2003 recipient of the Distinguished Alumna Award by Hood
College in Frederick, MD. She now resides in northern Michigan.
